It’s Spooky Season, Witches!
I don’t know about you, but as soon as there’s a chill in the air and the leaves change, I am beyond ready for all that fall brings…and throughout the month of October I embrace Halloween and all that it offers.
As a photographer, I love the drama that the season brings, and as a boudoir photographer…well, I don’t need an excuse to pull out a themed shoot, but why not?!
So, what does it take to really DO spooky boudoir, you ask? Well, last year I did this really incredible shoot with a friend of mine, and there are some pretty important things to keep in mind!
Bold Hair & Makeup
It’s allllllll about the drama!
When prepping hair and makeup for your session, play up the contrasts. A dark vampy lip, in a deep red, a purple, or even black looks STELLAR in spooky boudoir photos! And when it comes to hair, there are so many options; curls, waves, braids, and temporary hair color are all fun to play with to find the perfect look!
Dark Wardrobe Choices
Babe, it’s time to be BOLD.
Plunging necklines. Lace. Velvet. Harnesses and corsets! The sky is the limit on what you can do, but whatever you pick, pay close attention to your color palette. Dark, mysterious colors like black, burgundy, navy, and deep violet are the perfect touch for Spooky Season!
Accessories & Props Are A Must
I’m not huge on props for regular sessions, but when you’re doing a themed shoot, you want to really sell it! Black candles or elaborate candelabras, pumpkins, or even a cute black cat (Tini really rocked her close-up, didn’t she?!) can create the perfect ambiance!
And when it comes to accessories, fierce pieces that channel your inner badass/monster absolutely slay! Studded boots, striking jewelry, and witchy accessories are all excellent choices for a spooky boudoir shoot!
Set The Stage
You can’t take spooky pics against pastels and florals! While it might make for an intriguing contrast, if you’re going for a mood, you need to make it a mood.
Luxe velvet duvets, rich satin sheets, a badass accent wall…or even an outdoor setting! Play with color and texture, and you’ll be AMAZED at what kind of magic you can make!
Interested In Dark-Themed Boudoir?
I don’t do themed shoots often, but I do take a cue as to what kind of vibe you want in your shoot! If you have a certain style you want to channel, include it in your booking questionnaire and I’ll see if it’s a possibility! Send me an inquiry today, and let’s get started!
