There is a moment that catches my breath every time I witness it. That hairsbreadth of a second before your lips catch your loves, where you inhale the closeness of them ever so slightly and your heart skips just one beat because your skin is tingling being so close to the one with whom your soul is entwined.

That is what I work for.

(at the time), Shane and I first started talking about marriage, there was only one person I knew that I wanted to capture how he proposed, Carly, the owner of Someplace Images. Fast forward a few years, and Shane planned the most unique proposal ever with help from Carly and completely surprised me with all my friends and family around. As he got down on one knee and proposed, Carly captured every moment, including the one that perfectly captures the complete surprise of the proposal. Every day I look at that moment hanging on our wall in our kitchen.
When the time came for us to take our engagement pictures, of course, we thought only of Carly. She was available to take them shortly before she moved to Australia to pursue the opening of her new studio. We had our session with our favorite backdrop and the place we’ve been lucky to call home, Lake Tahoe. I was nervous about having these done as I’d never done a photoshoot before and was a little uncomfortable with the idea. Within a minute, we forgot Carly was there. She made both of us think just about how much we love each other, which shone through in the amazing pictures she took of us that day. She has a way of picking four or five spots to show off a stunning backdrop, but in no way taking away from the love of a couple.

Over the past 12 years, Carly has become one of my best friends. Without a doubt, I knew she would be our photographer, but I also really wanted her to be a bridesmaid in my wedding. With what we thought sounded like an impossible task, Carly and her brother (acting as her second shooter) took as a chance to show their incredible talent with both their cameras, and how they worked together to somehow capture all angles while remaining completely invisible but entirely present. The pictures from the getting ready part of our wedding day perfectly shows how excited and at ease everyone was around them. Even though Carly was a bridesmaid, standing up beside me, she still managed to take the most beautiful, detailed pictures of our ceremony from her unique perspective.
Once the ceremony was over and we moved to the family pictures… trust me, you only want Carly to do this. If you take nothing else away from my experience, take this. When you have a large family and you want pictures with all your cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, brothers, parents, and your dog, you need someone with a commanding voice who can herd cats efficiently. Carly turned what one would think was going to be an hour long ordeal into fifteen minutes with every single combination of family we wanted because she knows how to work a camera and a crowd. That was worth everything.
She then directed Shane and I to a location she had scouted the day before where the setting was perfect for our couples portraits. She knew exactly what we wanted without us telling her, which made it so much easier having one less thing to worry about.
Just to be able to capture the love we have for each other in the few minutes we had away from our guests is not only the mark of a good photographer, but of a person who understands people, who loves people and wants the best for them. Even if she has only met you once, Carly will remember everything you told her, take details from that meeting and use it down the road to take relate it in imagery that perfectly show who you are as a person, even if you don’t see it yourself.
I would highly recommend Carly as your photographer for everything: your proposal, engagement session, wedding, boudoir session, family pictures…I could go on and on. Carly has made the most important days of mine and Shane’s life even more important by having moments to go back to over and over again.
