How They Met

Angela: We met how most millennials are meeting now a days… Online. We met through match.com. Steve had sent me a wink so I ‘winked’ back but never got a further response so I didn’t think much of it. A couple weeks later I saw he had been on my page again and liked one of my pictures, but still no message! So I thought ‘what the heck’ and just emailed him. He responded and we emailed back a few times. When we talked on the phone that first time we learned that I had worked with his cousin for years, one of the many connections we have found between our families over the years. We met for a coffee date and hike in auburn for our first date and the rest is history.

Our first look was the most special moment. It was only Steve and I with our photographer and videographer. I think our family and friends were disappointed they couldn’t witness it, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It became our own special moment that I will always cherish.

I was very lucky to have a sister who is a baker and created a beautiful three-tiered wedding cake and amazing dessert bar that became a focal point of the receptions decor.

In order to save money, the Bride designed and created the bridal bouquet, bridesmaid’s bouquets, and boutonnieres. The bouquets were a mixture of persevered flowers Angela ordered online and real flowers, which she bulk ordered from Trader Joes. After watching YouTube videos and doing a couple of practice runs, she and her bridesmaids had pre wedding mani/pedis and put together their bouquets, a fun prewedding activity!

Both the Bride and the Groom were too nervous to say their own vows, so the Reverend had each of them write a story about the other and read it aloud during the ceremony. Neither of them had heard the other’s story prior to the ceremony, making for a sweet and special moment.

It was very important that our wedding day be fun and a reflection of us. My husband was very involved in all of the decisions and we created the ideas of our day together.

We wanted the day to represent us as best as possible, so from the burger bar for dinner, to the See’s Candy favors (my favorite chocolate) to the centerpieces and bouquets that we created ourselves, personal touches were all around.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Angela: It is so true what everyone tells you… The day goes by so fast. So much time and months of planning lead up to the wedding day and it is done in a flash. Surround yourself with people that make you happy, laugh, and keep stress at bay.
